Full of nice people and nice places, Dallas is a city of diversity. It’s a city where temperatures can reach 110 F and fall to 10 F. It’s a city where some people ride horses while others buy cupcakes from a cupcake ATM.
It is centrally located and within a four-hour flight from most North American destinations. Dallas has the largest urban arts district in the nation and the best shopping in the southwest.
It is home to five professional sports teams: Dallas Cowboys (NFL); Dallas Stars (NHL); Dallas Mavericks (NBA); FC Dallas (MLS) and the Texas Rangers (MLB) plus NASCAR and Indy racing. The area is also home to more than 200 golf courses.
Did you know? With the roof closed, the entire Statue of Liberty could fit into the Cowboys Stadium! That during the winter holiday season, the Galleria Dallas is home to the country’s tallest indoor Christmas tree! These facts were new to me too, but these interesting points and more are what I have discovered in my outs and abouts in my city.
Travel and transport
Since distance from one neighborhood to the other can be significant, I recommend renting a car or using Uber. I love to ride the Trolley that connects the Art District with Uptown. MCKINNEY AVENUE TRANSIT AUTHORITY.
Dining
My favorite places to eat.
For an authentic taco, I go to Taco Stop (in the heart of design district) which is open for breakfast and lunch Taco Stop

And for no one-else-makes-this-quesadillas-and-margaritas I go to Quesa: Mexican Street Food in the heart of cedar springs.
If you’re not craving tacos I suggest you go to Yutaca which is a hidden gem on McKinney Ave. It’s a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar and a great place to relax with its casual atmosphere.
For more upscale dinner experience Abacus (kentrathbun.com)
and Nonna View on nonnadallas.com
If you want to feel like you’re in New York I suggest Tj”s fish Market for the Best warm Lobster Rolls around and if you want to taste something very southern go to any ‘Babes Chicken House.’
Women’s network and events
Maiden Voyage’s partners, IWant2Network offer membership for the best professional networking groups and meetings, locally, nationally and all over the world. See what’s happening in Dallas and join IWant2Network here.
Run Like A Mom is a race for woman to celebrate women and happens every year around Mothers day.
Beauty and fitness
Dallas is teeming with beauty and fitness options. If you are staying in uptown you could get a pass for the LA Fitness or go to Flywheel or just go and enjoy yourself at the Katy Trail. It’s a runners dream as it’s very green and very friendly.
For a quick hair fix I go to The Dry Bar.
Safety and emergency services
While I have felt safe living in Dallas, I would advise common sense wherever you go. Central Dallas is a target area since it is also the area where many tourist attractions are located. For good nightlife, try McKinney Ave near Lemmon, Knox-Henderson or Lower Greenville Ave. I would not walk alone in the West End side at night.
